Nayan Choker Necklace
A contemporary interpretation of the Navratna, the Nayan choker necklace is a trousseau must-have.
The choker belt comprises nine squares, crafted in gold and dressed in the auspicious Navratna in a floral motif using the traditional jadai technique. From the belt are suspended gold units crafted in fish and inverted crescent motifs, dressed in polki/uncut diamonds, each with a polki-inlaid gemstone at its bottom.
Both the fish and the crescent moon are significant motifs in Indian culture. While the fish is considered the first avatar of Vishnu and the first creature to be born in the water, the crescent moon is considered an emblem of peace and calm and symbolizes the Great Divine Mother (Shakti) and female power.
The Navratna, or the auspicious nine gems, are thought to protect nine parts of the human body: flesh, fat, bones, hair, feelings, marrow, lymph, blood, and sperm. The number nine is also considered to be a holy number."
